Why “Scrumming with Shakespeare?”

For the better part of the last decade, my life has been focused on rugby and English (teaching and studying it). While Shakespeare may or may not have been a bit of a play thief, he still basically invented the “Yo mama” joke in Timon of Athens.

Painter: “Y’are a dog.”
Apemantus: “Thy mother’s of my generation. What’s she, if I be a dog?”

Combining a love of literature with a love of rugby felt like the best possible way in which to run a blog. For the record, William Shakespeare showed classical signs of playing scrumhalf: he talked too much, insulted the wrong people, and was a little undersized.
